What a great morning! The light snowfall this winter morn blessed me with the opportunity of ice. I must say, it has been a long time since I’ve spun out.
And by that, I mean about an hour. Spinning out of control on a narrow street is quite a frightening situation. Especially when you grind up next to the curb. But this is not the point of my post. Just keep the word “grind” in your head.
Returning back to my humble abode, I had a lot of things on my mind (including the recent spin out). Everything dealing with entrepreneurship, this blog, startups who have contacted me, and the usual daily grind. Ah, there’s that word again.
One thing in particular which boggles my brain is the fact that, as an actuary, I have actuarial exams to pass in order to keep my credentials in check with the insurance industry. These exams are incredibly difficult, with a 30% pass rate and a requirement of about 100 study hours for every hour of the test (an average of 300-500 hours per exams). So this all got me thinking. Sure there are actuarial exam resources and websites which can help you pass the tests, but the only incentive that they offer is a score. That’s what you strive for as an actuary – a passing score. I felt something missing.
Thus, Actuary Grind was born. I used to have friends in high school who were dedicated players of Blizzard’s World of Warcraft, and they would always talk about “grinding” for gold or other valuable in-game items. Combining the idea of the actuarial exams and the grinding concept from World of Warcraft, I came up with Actuary Grind – a website focused on rewarding you for answering questions correctly. The reward would be some type of site currency which could then be redeemed for actuary study books, formula sheets, exam prep courses, and etc…
The idea is still in its developmental stages. I’ve purchased www.ActuaryGrind.com as well as setup the Twitter @ActuaryGrind. So if you are interested in pursuing this idea or perhaps have an interest in such a service, please feel free to reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are interested in obtaining the Blueprint for this idea, all you have to do is subscribe to my mailing list. Really – there’s no catch! I just want to be able to provide you with the best service that I can, along with the ability for me to build a personal connection with you in the process. My personal consultation is also available upon request.
Best of luck this holiday season, and safe travels!
